Groom's
Speech
The groom's speech needs to be centered on letting
everyone know how you feel about your new bride while also thanking
everyone who played a role in making the event a big success.

Groom's
Speech

In general, the groom's speech should be limited to five minutes.
Typically, the groom is the second person to speak, after the father
of the bride.
The father of the bride might have given a completely riveting
speech that will be hard to compete with or he might have bored
everyone to tears.
If this is the case, you might have to struggle in the beginning
of the groom's speech to get the full room's attention. In any case,
be sure that you have a strong opening that will really grab everyone's
attention. Such an opening may be a relevant joke about the wedding
so far, a quip, a quote by a person at the wedding or just a witty
observation.
Of all the people you'll wish to thank in the groom's speech, do
not forget the bride's father, first and foremost. He will have
proceeded you in your talk. You can thank him for his beautiful
daughter, his friendship and kindness, for proposing the toast,
his engaging speech, as well as for the wedding feast or whatever
else for which he might have paid.
In the groom's speech, you will want to make sure that you thank
everyone who participated including the bride, her parents, your
parents the groomsmen, maids of honor and others who played a part.
Also, thank the guests in general.
Thank the guests for their great wedding gifts, as well as for
simply attending and showing their friendship and love. You should
thank everyone who played a role in the organization and planning
of the wedding.
This includes the bridesmaids, who have attended to your new wife
throughout this day. If you are going to comment on their beauties
and charms, make sure you do not do it in a way that will make your
wife envious or show up your new bride.
The key to the groom's speech is making a good impression on everyone
with as few words as possible. Brevity is the soul of wit it has
been said and the groom's speech is no exception.
Finally, at the heart of the groom's speech, you should thank your
new bride herself for being a wonderful person, exactly the right
match for you and your partner for life. In regard to your bride,
talk about how you met, how the relationship has progressed and
tell funny stories where appropriate. Keep it light and remember
not to tell jokes that have the potential to hurt feelings as this
will not be a good way to start your new life together.
Finally, end your speech by toasting the bridesmaids and groomsmen
for their extra attention on your special day.
Write the speech out in advance and practice it several times so
that you do not sound too stiff in saying it. Also, do not over-rehearse
as this will sound forced as well. If parts of your speech sound
disconnected, make sure you re-arrange it so that it flows.
The groom's wedding speech is one of the most important aspects
of the marriage celebration and will most likely be played back
on video for years. Monitor your alcohol consumption beforehand
so that you are clear and eloquent.
But, above all else enjoy the day since this is the time where
you and your bride get to shine before family and friends.
